Tanjung Uban Town

Tanjung Uban is a district town in Bintan regency, province of Riau Archipelago, Indonesia. This small town is also included in Bintan Island which has a sea port for expedition ships and passenger ships owned by the pioneer of PT. Pelni. Tanjung Uban is also access to the island of Batam and Singapore.



Local port which is called Bulang Linggi used as speedboat terminal to Batam Island and Bintan Telani Ferry Terminal in Lagoi is seaport for tourist to come in to Bintan Resort. In Tanjung Uban are there also industrial area in Lobam: BIIE.

Tanjung Uban residents come from various ethnic, as shown in the villages are named: Javanese village, bugis village etc, but in everyday communication is always using Malay language (Bahasa Melayu).

Tanjung Uban can be achieved with a trip inland from the town of Tanjung Pinang with travel time approximately 2 hours (with a private vehicle). There is a bus terminal in the area of Batu 10 Tanjung Pinang routes serving the Tanjung Pinang - Tanjung Uban. The bus departs every hour and takes a longer travel than personal vehicles (about 4 hours). Until the year 2009 the common point is the main point in the middle of the island. Alternative route is being developed which will cut travel time in the area of land southwest of the island of Bintan. When this alternatif route finished in 2011, distance between Tanjung Uban and Tanjung Pinang will be only 49 kms.

Besides the roads, Tanjung Uban can also be reached from Tanjung Pinang by sea travel. From the Port of Sri Bintan Pura (Tanjung Pinang) speedboat that took the route to the area Lobam (Seri Kuala Lobam District) took only 30 minutes for 35 thousands rupiahs. From Lobam proceed overland journey, by motorcycle taxi (ojek) , leading to Tanjung Uban for abuot 15 minutes for 10-15 thousand rupiahs. This journey is shorter than the roads, only takes total about 45 minutes. It will save you a lot of time but it will cost you more.


Sea travel is the only access that can be used to achieve the current Tanjung Uban from the island of Batam. There are two mode of transportation that could be used for commuting from Tanjung Uban to Telaga Punggur Port(Batam). The first one is by speedboat, is a quick means of transport with limited transport capacity (about 20 passengers). By using the speedboat, travel time takes only about 15 minutes. Except for the season with a strong sea waves, the boat will take a longer route through the waters around the many small islands that spread among Tanjung Uban and Batam, which is relatively sheltered the boat from strong waves. Ticket cost per person is 35 thousand rupiahs. The secondly (now widely used) is by ferry roll on roll off (RORO) takes time about 50-60 minutes. Ferry departures , just 2 times a day from each port (Tanjung Uban-Batam) From Tanjung Uban left around 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM , while the Batam left around 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Ticket cost per person is 12 thousand rupiahs, for car is 160 thousand rupiah (included driver), for motorcycle is 30 thousand rupiahs.
